Setting up your learning space....table!

Creating a place for learning will help the time shared with your child to be easy to set up and easy to clean up when learning is ready to happen. The hope is that learning doesn’t take over your home, and you can still enjoy living in your home while you enjoy learning time with your child!  Letting your child help with creating these areas will transition them into learning and become excited about it.

Setting up your learning space….table!

Find a spot in your home where your child will be able to enjoy working/playing on a flat firm surface.  This will facilitate writing, coloring and all kinds of games and activities.  It should be a table (flat surface) where they can comfortably sit and/or stand and has good lighting.  This might be your kitchen table or a small table in their play space.  Being close to a sink is a bonus.  Being able to easily wash hands at a moments notice is priceless.

Activity Set up will include a bin, basket or bag that will hold items for your one activity.  There are many reasons for using this bin but one of the best reasons is it will help your child focus on the materials for the activity you have intended for them to experience.  This is NOT a bin to hold ALL your supplies (you will want to figure out another storage place for those).  Just the supplies for one activity.  You will see what I mean when you start looking at the lesson plans.

Also consider keeping your table clean (table cloth or cover, spray bottle and rags/paper towels)  Your child will be learning how to help with the clean up!

You will discover as time goes by, the different activities you will enjoy at the table and the items that need to be stored for easy access and those that can be stored farther away.
